Recently, I have had an overwhelming sense of the need for all of us to know how valuable we are. God gave me the phrase, “You are worth fighting for.” While I would love to tell everyone that life is easy, we will never have any problems and everyone will always get along with us, this is just not the truth. As long as we live on this earth, we are all engaged in the battle between the Prince of Peace and the prince of darkness. Yes, Jesus has already won this battle on the cross, but until He comes back again, we are all charged with using our authority to push back the prince of darkness from every facet of our lives.
So why are we worth fighting for? Because we are made in the image of God. We already have a book in heaven written about us with wonderful plans and purposes for our life. We are not just an accident that popped onto this earth with a brief chance to make something of ourselves before we return to nothingness. We are a God-breathed being that He called forth to this earth to fulfill a plan and experience all of His promises for all of eternity.
God never said this path wouldn’t come without a battle. In fact, here are two scriptures that discuss how he prepares us to fight. Psalms 18:34,39:
34 He teaches my hands to make war,
So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.39 For You have armed me with strength for the battle;
You have subdued under me those who rose up against me.
And if that isn’t enough, Ephesians 6:10-18 talks about the armor of God that we are to put on. Why would we need all of this preparation and armor if we weren’t going to fight any battles? And just to make sure we are talking about the same battles; these are spiritual battles. In that same section of Ephesians, it says we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against spiritual rulers of the darkness.
Final Thoughts…
Our part in the battle is to put our trust in God and to not give up. Our part is to put on our armor and let God’s strength be our song. Our part is to let God show us how to prepare for the battles ahead. Then when the battles come, we will know how to stand. Sometimes the battle to not give up is the strongest battle we will ever fight. Sometimes just getting out of bed, singing our hearts out to a worship song or opening our tear-stained Bible is victory enough for that day. If ever you feel you are not worth fighting for, tell the accuser you will not give in to his lies. Open your Bible and declare Psalm 91 and Psalm 139 out loud until your soul gets a glimpse of how valuable you are in God’s eyes. You were worth being formed. You were worth being saved. You are worth fighting for. Your Defender has never lost and never will.
