Lately, every time I read through the story of Esther I get some new nugget out of it. The story of Esther is one of my favorites in the Bible. One of my children is even named after her. It’s an incredible story of bravery, being led by Holy Spirit’s wisdom and it ends with victory for the good people. There is no Disney princess story that even comes close!
The scripture that drew my attention this time is from Esther 8:1-2:
1On that day King Ahasuerus gave Queen Esther the house of Haman, the enemy of the Jews. And Mordecai came before the king, for Esther had told how he was related to her. 2 So the king took off his signet ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai; and Esther appointed Mordecai over the house of Haman.
Not only did King Ahasuerus help Esther defeat Haman and those that wanted to kill the Jews, but this passage says that he also gave her the house and possessions of Haman. And because the King now knew who Mordecai was he was given the King’s signet ring (which was taken from Haman). Esther also appointed Mordecai to be in charge of Haman’s property. Talk about overflowing blessings. It would have been enough just to be saved from death, but King Ahasuerus gave them even more. This shouts to me as a picture of the goodness of God.
Think about the story of Joseph. He was sold and put in prison only to become second in command to Pharaoh. Again, it would have been enough just to be freed from prison, but he was blessed with even more. Another picture of the incredible goodness of God. Many of us don’t yet understand the fullness of His goodness. It truly is lacking nothing. Our imperfect perception is the thing that is sometimes lacking.
Final Thoughts…
Not only does God promise victory over every single enemy that tries to rise up against us, but He desires to bless us to overflowing in the process. He is the Creator of the Universe. Everything belongs to Him. He is searching for those who will rely on Him for their every need and trust that He will fulfill every desire that He has put inside of them. I believe our ability to experience the full goodness of God is based on our ability to trust in the full goodness of God. He doesn’t just want us to live life, He wants us to live an abundant life. Break open your box of goodness and watch Him fill it to overflowing!
